The popularity of Erlang began to grow due to the expansion of its field of application (telecommunication systems) to highly loaded parallel distributed systems serving millions of WWW users, such as chats, content management systems, web servers and distributed, scaling databases. Erlang is used in several high-availability NoSQL databases.
