Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is a suite of communications protocols used to interconnect hosts on the Internet. These protocols are used for connection two or more computers via the internet for data transferring.

A primary goal of this advanced network was to allow communications to continue in the event of nuclear strikes upon the United States. Therefore, the network had to be redundant and offer multiple communication paths.
